(music) (vo - ben) heading into thefifth day of our trip acrossthe u.s., we arrive at the nextstop. (music continues) (ben) alright. we just drovehere all night... to coloradosprings, colorado. i just woke up.
traveling bar, and, i have not see the view ofcolorado yet because we drovehere all night and i'm dying to go out there.fazio's out there drinkingcoffee. i'm curious what hethinks. so time to check out that view.we could barely see last night. (vo - ben) while we chose totravel across the country in avan, we found a way
to spend sometime in a plane.(ben) heading off to theairplane restaurant. (fazio) the airplane restaurantfor a little lunch. (fazio) i wonder if they havethe airplane special... withflies. (fazio laughs) flies... (hostess) hi. welcome to the airplane restaurant.(ben) hi. how are you? (hostess) would you guys liketo sit down here in theterminal or upstairs in theairplane. (ben) the airplane would be great.(hostess) the airplane? (hostess) alright. your flight attendant will be with you in just a few minutes.(ben) great. (vo - ben) built in 1953, theairplane is a boeing kc-97tanker
and was originally designed torefuel other aircraft. then in 2002, it became thecenterpiece of this restaurantallowing customers an up close look at the cockpitwhile grabbing a bite to eat. (ben) so, what do you give that for a rating.(fazio) as far as the food isconcerned, it's probably, i'd say 4 out of 5 stars.really good. but the uniqueness of the restaurant is 5 out of5. so, i think as far as experiencing something likethat, you go to the restaurantonce. you eat the good food. and that's it. i can't seegoing there on, you know, numerous occasions. (ben) no. you know, i would goback for the terminal, and thenthat's it.
then i would be like, why do ifeel like i'm in an airport. (fazio) i don't really like theclosed quarters that, you know, you can hear everything that'sgoing on right next to you. (woman) well, patrick swayzewas sick at the end. (fazio) then you have theparent, or the grandparentsnext door that are trying toshut the kid up because you can hear everything.(child) i want, i want it now, mommy!(adult) sshhh! (child) i want to be an airplane pilot!(adult) sshhh! (ben) it was just like any other airplane experience. you have the annoying kid.(fazio) (laughs) yes, that'strue. (child) buy it every waiter! (???)(adult) sshhh! (fazio) seemed kind of weird.(ben) i don't know.
(fazio) oriental spa massage isopen. (music starts)(ben) there's another happycustomer. (ben) next stop... arcadeamusements. (fazio) where the arcade games go to die.(music continues) (vo - ben) the world famousmanitou springs penny arcadehas the one of the bestcollections of antique and new video games.pinball machines, skee ball, and evencoin-operated rides. we could have spent hours atthis place reliving ourchildhood. (arcade sounds)
(vo - ben) we were playinggames like centipede, (arcade sounds)pac-man, and q-bert. (arcade sounds)(music continues) (vo - ben) now that we weremore than half way across thecountry, i notice my mood wasapproving and i could enjoy the trip a little more.(ben) not bad. good day. good day in colorado... springs.(fazio) yes, it was. (ben) alright. we're we going?(fazio) albuquerque. (ben) and how long til albuquerque?(fazio) uh, five hours. (ben) albuquerque.
(vo - ben) after spending theday the airplane restaurant andseeing all the rides at thearcade, i started to notice ourcountries fascination withtransportation. like elvis' lincoln continentalat the rock and roll hall offame. seeing all the trains in scranton. and the travelingbar in indianapolis. and while we were driving, ifound myself filming all typesof cars. trucks carrying cars.and even cars towing other cars. (music resolves) (theme music) next time... on doing america.(fazio) it's a dime bag of thecrystal.
little blue crystal. (ben) 10:00... no. 8:30 arizonatime... new mexico time. i don't knowwhat i'm saying. (fazio) that's awesome. (theme music continues)
